Consortium satisfied with result of consumer survey

Pane di Altamura DOP bread is confirmed as the most popular among Italians. This is the result of research conducted by Klaus Davi & Co., a leading communications agency based in Rome and Milan, and released in recent weeks.

The Altamura bakery product, which has boasted the European “Protected Designation of Origin” certification since 2003, ranked first in the list of the 10 most popular breads in Italy. A figure that gratifies the great work done in recent years by the Consortium for the Valorization and Protection of Pane di Altamura DOP and in particular by all those who have contributed to obtaining the prestigious P.D.O. recognition.

A result, the one released by the Klaus Davi & Co. communication agency, which represents a starting point and not an arrival point, because the intrinsic potential of Pane di Altamura DOP is, in fact, much broader than imagined. The president of the Consortium, Luigi Picerno, is aware of this, and from the first day of his inauguration he has lavished great energy on protecting and enhancing a product that now no longer represents only a regional or local heritage, but that of the entire country.

“I am happy,” said President Luigi Picerno, “for this flattering recognition with which consumers have decreed Pane di Altamura DOP as the best bread in ITALY. I thank all the consortium members and operators in the Pane di Altamura DOP supply chain, and I invite all bakers in Altamura, Gravina in Puglia, Poggiorsini, Minervino Murge and Spinazzola to certify themselves for the production of Pane di Altamura DOP, a food and wine product of excellence and a feather in the cap that the whole world appreciates.”
A baked product that, together with other DOPs such as Prosciutto di Parma or Parmigiano Reggiano, just to give two examples, rightfully ranks in the basket of excellence of Italian food and wine offerings worldwide.

President Picerno also thanks the Klaus Davi & Co. communications agency for conducting this research and announces that the work of enhancement and protection continues with the goal of achieving other important results.
